The tattoo was created by Matt Kennedy, who Corey affectionately calls his “brother from another mother.” The artwork was done at House of Ink Kinston, a studio in North Carolina that Corey owns. "This tattoo is the beginning of a sleeve that will be portraits of the musicians who played a part in keeping me from folding in the hardest times," Corey explained. "And I’m proud to have started it off with Jelly Roll! I’ve seen him five times in concert and hope to see him 500 more."

Corey has been involved in the judicial system since he was around 14 years old. During his time in prison, music became a refuge. "While in prison, I listen to music 24/7, even sleeping with my headphones in a lot of times because that’s where I found peace," he said. His favorite song by Jelly Roll is "She," which resonates deeply with him due to the loss of his baby sister to a heroin overdose.

In prison, Corey developed a daily routine of work, school, and drawing. He took full advantage of the educational opportunities available to him, recognizing that this was his chance to build a better future. "I was released from prison on April 19, 2013. When I walked out of that gate, I had one thing on my mind: Providing for my kids and building a future for them," he said.

Twelve years later, Corey has built a six-figure company from the ground up. He now lives a life filled with family time, appreciating every moment and taking nothing for granted. Although he hasn't yet had the opportunity to show Jelly Roll the tattoo in person, he hopes to meet the singer someday to share his story.
